About

What is Jagriti?
Rural development has always been an integral part of MICA, whether it is academics, seminars or various student events. Students, inspired by this, started engaging in various activities like teaching workers in Chhota canteen and the mess. Gradually as the scope increased, this small team of students organized into the formal committee that is now Jagriti – the social service wing of MICA. Since its inception, the committee has been actively working towards creating a better and a more sensitive society.

What is the vision of Jagriti?
Jagriti takes inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s principle - “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”. It aims to address the various social and environmental issues by involving the entire MICA community.

What are its responsibilities?
With 15 members in the team and 5 faculty members supporting the cause, the team has a wide range of responsibilities. Jagriti primarily focuses on issues pertaining to Education, Health, Environment and Society. It is working towards contributing to the society in every possible way. Be it by educating workers inside the campus on a daily basis or by organizing health check-up camps in the nearby villages, the team has always been passionately contributing to the welfare of the society.

How is the committee formed?
Jagriti comprises of 7 senior members and 8 junior members. Every year, the senior team selects the junior team at the beginning of the session by conducting various rounds of interviews. Members are selected on the basis on how sensitive they are towards the various social issues and how enthusiastic they are to tackle these issues. Once selected, the junior team and the senior team work in tandem with each other on various events lined up for the year.
What have we achieved?
Jagriti, in just one year, has made its presence felt by conducting several initiatives like blood donation camps, health check-up camps for people from nearby villages, education camps and environmental camps.  In association with the Government of Gujarat, Jagriti also conducted an event for generating ideas to promote social messages through eco-friendly means. Jagriti, from being an informal committee became a formal committee in just one year and the number of core committee members increased from 5 to 15. The committee has very ambitious plans to further increase the scope of its work and tackle many more social issues.
